Daylight
As daylight begins to lengthen its stride.
and the solstice has danced upon ancient stones
As maudlin mid-winter mistletoe memories made.
The new year ushers itself brusquely through the door with nare a by your leave
Reincarnated dreams and promises stare you vacantly straight in the eye,
Ink barely dry on repeat resolutions, which once again were with undue haste made
So commence the capricious negotiations in Winter’s weak frozen light
For dry January promises redemption for a hefty dowry,
which the full amount your liver has diligently paid
Reclaim that errant time lost whilst your dreams up and took their chance,
Remember to live in the moment, at least that’s what the mantra chants
For sure as bacon is bacon those calories won’t count themselves
Hark the sirens of the gym, for they are calling at least till the ides of March.
Whose next to join the cigarettes that were forsaken at least twenty seasons ago.
Grasp tight that light as it lengthens, feel the sun once again kissing your face.
For remember the dominos just keep tumbling,
till your mortal coil slips from this world to the next
